Data Sets from DataDisk CD-ROM [ TOP
]
Information about the DataDisk CD-ROM
The CD-ROM contains all the data sets used in the book's examples, exercises, and case studies. It also includes
the Focus Database, a database that was obtained by randomly selecting 500 Arizona State University sophomores.
Seven variables are considered for each student: sex, high-school GPA, SAT math score, cumulative GPA, SAT verbal
score, age, and total hours completed. Compatible with PC and Macintosh, DataDisk is packaged with every copy of
the book.
All of the data sets available for download on this Web site are the current and complete data sets for Elementary
Statistics, Fourth Edition. Our first printing of the DataDisk CD-ROM included a few incomplete data sets. Please
download the complete data sets for Chapter 2 of the Exercise Files from this Web site.
This note identifies the acronyms used for the top-level directories on DataDisk CD:
ES4 = Elementary Statistics, fourth edition
IS5 = Introductory Statistics, fifth edition
Please refer to both the book and these ReadMe files, which are also available on the DataDisk CD-ROM, for more
specific instructions on how to use these datasets.

UPDATED AND NEW MINITAB MACROS
In going from Release 12 to Release 13, Minitab has made changes in what constitutes acceptable syntax in the Minitab
programming language. As a consequence, macros that run successfully in Release 12 may not do so in Release 13.
We have revised the Minitab macros provided in the Macro directory of DataDisk CD so that they are compatible with
Release 13 and yet still run in Release 12. Additionally, we are pleased to include a new Minitab macro, called
groupl.mac, that groups data using the alternate method described on pages 71 and 72 of Introductory
Statistics 5/e and Elementary Statistics 4/e. This macro, written by Professor J. David Lifsey of Georgia Perimeter
College, displays class limits and class marks rather than class cutpoints and class midpoints.
